Card Skimmer Found in EFTPOS Machine
Card skimmer found in EFTPOS machine. A CARD skimming device found in a local EFTPOS machine has led to many Coffs Coast residents getting a call from their bank informing them their cue cards and Visa debit / credit cards were most likely compromised and will be cancelled. Bananacoast Credit Union Boss Lyndon Kingston asserted as quickly as the organisation became privy to the problem, BCU started calling members who had used their BCU cards at this merchant. “In the past week we have personally called BCU members to make arrangements for the cancellation of their cards and ordering of new ones,” Mr Kingston related.
“The BCU took each care to handle this event effectively and quickly and as a consequence we have had no report of unapproved use of an affiliate card following this incident.” he claimed there would be no cost to members who had their cards cancelled and replaced. “We started swift action to relieve the risk to our members’ finances as our members’ trust in the safety of our systems is supreme. “Unfortunately card skimming devices can be incredibly difficult to perceive and our area isn’t impervious to the fraudulent activities that have influenced other areas.” Any BCU members nervous about the situation can call 1300 228 228.
The BCU wasn’t the sole organisation impacted by the fraud.
